New Delhi: The issue of false encounters in Jammu and Kashmir is snowballing into a political drama.
PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti slipped out of her security cordon and travelled about 100 kilometers away from Srinagar on Thursday.
She is reported to have done this to protest the Chief Minister's remark on withdrawal of the army from the Valley.
Chief Minister Azad had said that those demanding the withdrawal of the army should first give up their security cover.
Former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and several other PDP MLAs have asked the state government to withdraw their security.
Earlier, in a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had requested to withdraw his personal security and that of Mehbooba Mufti.
Mufti had said it was his party's consistent view that a dignified solution to problems facing Jammu and Kashmir could only come through dialogue and peaceful means.
Mehbooba and her father have surrendered their security cover and asked Chief Minister GN Azad to fulfill his promise of reducing troops and their powers in Jammu and Kashmir.
