HYDERABAD: A minister and a top police functionary have locked horns over the recent posting of an ACP rank officer in Hyderabad. Reason: the minister says the ACP is "not his man" while the senior IPS officer insists the official can only be posted here.
With both refusing to budge, the matter has now reached the powersthatbe, who appear to be in no mood to resolve the row with the Telangana agitation keeping them preoccupied. Sources disclosed to Express that the state government on September 3 issued a GO transferring a few ACPs. One of them was E Shankar Reddy, who was posted as ACP Banjara Hills, considered a key post. Before the orders came through, he was working in the Vigilance and Enforcement department. Normally, one needs to have the blessings of some neta to get a posting there. The moment the news about Shankar Reddy's posting was out, the minister in question, who is not in the proT group and who has interests in and around Banjara Hills, took strong objection to it. Those in the know of developments say the minister was furious he was not kept in the loop when the posting was being decided. "He is not my man," is what the minister told his aides. Thereafter, the minister is understood to have called up certain police officials and expressed his displeasure over the posting. He also went to the extent of saying that no one can go ahead with the posting without his nod.
