VISAKHAPATNAM: A major fire mishap has been averted in the NTPC-Simhadri super thermal power project here on Thursday when the conveyor belt, which is shifting coal from the stockyard to the furnace caught fire. However, no casualties have been reported in the incident.Soon after the fire broke out, the fire wing of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.Presently, the plant is generating 1,500 MW power through its three units (500 MW each) and the fourth unit is yet to be commissioned.In unit-3, the conveyor belt was damaged due to the fire and production was stopped to prevent further damage.Later, power generation resumed.According to official release, it was a minor accident and fire-fighting personnel have brought situation under control.“There was a small fire in the conveyor belt of unit-3, which has been controlled,” the release said
