CHENNAI: The Madras Medical College has sought to pay rich tribute to the city, on the occasion of its week long 372nd birthday celebration, by hosting exhibitions of various artefacts and pieces of med-college history that they have preserved, through the years. MMC-ians have organised this exhibition for their fellow citizens of Chennai.While more technical displays are at MMC itself such as pathological macro specimens and forensic macro specimens, more historical items like charts of various structures in the college are also there. The anatomy block has also been thrown open for viewing as it is a heritage building.At the institute of obstetrics and gynaecology and government hospital for women and children at Egmore there is an expo of instruments used in delivery of babies 100 years ago. Besides 200 such devices that had been displayed, there are also modern devices such as the Ultrasonogram, besides more than 100 macro specimens of cancer and other paediatric risk specimens.At the government opthalmic hospital in Egmore, which was the second eye hospital in the world, there are about 90 eye ball models depicting various diseases, on display for the public. Besides these, there are also displays open at other institutes affiliated to MMC. These exhibits are open to the public from 9am to 4pm on all days including Sundays till August 28.
