Modern nanotech centre to aid research

CHENNAI: Starved of funds and infrastructure in research and development, a consortium of research institutes is tying up with companies to set up a state-of-theart centre for nanotechnology at Madhavapuram, according to R Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.“This is the first initiative involving industry and the Centre will be supported by a consortium of research institutes and biotechnological or pharmaceutical companies who would drive and run the research in different areas of their interest,” Prabhakaran said.“A meeting was held on July 15 where representatives of more than 25 companies had come together along with academia and members of Virginia Tech, US. Six companies have expressed their interest and we are having a second meeting in October,” he added.
