New Delhi: Even as the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan remain drought-affected, the southwest monsoon lashed the Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh in the past 24 hours.
In some relief for the parched north India, Delhi too got rains for the second consecutive day on Wednesday.
The city received 15.6 mm of rains till 8:30 am in the morning while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.6 degree Celsius, normal for this time of the year.
Till August 3, the Indian Meteorology Department (IMD) has forecast rain/thundershowers at many places over western Himalayan region, Haryana, Delhi, east Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, central and east India, many places over west coast, northeastern states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
It has also forecast rain/thundershowers at a few places over Punjab, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, north Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.
It has warned of heavy rainfall at one or two places over Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours and at one or two places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Konkan and Goa, Chhattisgarh and Odisha during the next 48 hours.
Sharad Pawar to tour drought-hit states
Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will on Wednesday begin his 3-day tour of four worst drought-hit states.
Pawar will lead a team to drought-affected areas in the four states, during August 1-3 to assess the rain deficit and water scarcity situation.
The Agriculture Minister will first visit Maharashtra on Wednesday and Karnataka on Thursday. He will hold meetings in Gujarat and Rajasthan on Friday.
