For MTC commuters working in offices along the LIC stretch, life had been bliss till now. After all, LIC as a bus stop was a landmark, a model bus stop with a service lane, ample space for multiple buses to stop and hardly any traffic chaos. Well, those are distant memories now. With plenty of diversions to pave the way for Metro Rail, bus stops, including the one at LIC, have been clumsily shifted to the corner of GP road. Any stopping bus driver will immediately face the brunt of horns as he is blocking the traffic, so he automatically leaves faster, said bus stop regulars. “We are stuck behind these barricades for pedestrians and buses stop along a 100-metre stretch, wherever they find space. By the time we make it around the barricade, the bus is moving out of sight,” rued Subhalakshmi, who works as an accountant in a publishing firm nearby. “I have been boarding buses here for 28 years and have never faced a problem like this,” she added.Another problem is for those travelling by vans. When their vans stop outside their gate, they have to step into the way of moving traffic and manoeuvre their way around the van to make it to the safety of their office compound.
