BALASORE: The authorities of North Eastern Electricity Supply Company (Nesco) on Friday issued notice to Balasore Alloys Limited (BAL) asking it to pay the outstanding  Rs 165 crore. In the notice, the ferro-alloy company has been asked to pay the amount in 15 days or face disconnection. Sources said the notice has been issued following instruction of the Managing Director of Nesco after ‘The Express’ carried a story on the Nesco’s generosity to the major defaulter of electricity bills in the State onDecember 8.As per the OERC provisions, the notice has been issued and the company asked to pay the dues. “As the director (operations) of BAL refused to acknowledge, the notice was pasted at a conspicuous location near the company’s main gate. If the company fails to pay the dues within the given time frame, power supply will be disconnected without any further notice,” said a Nesco official. Nesco was accused of allowing BAL to go scot-free even as it has electricity dues of Rs 161.54 crore for the last several years besides the current bills. Instead of taking measures for the recovery, the electricity distribution company had allegedly started a process to waive off around Rs 133.54 crore of the dues. After the expose, several electricity consumers fora had slammed Nesco for subservient behaviour to the corporate house and wanted the government to recover the amount. The Director (Operations) of BAL, BN Panda,  said he would discuss the matter with the Nesco MD and take measures accordingly. Meanwhile, panic spread among the workers and employees of BAL who are doubtful of survival of the company with this liability.
