CHENNAI: Nine trustees, led by Justice P Thangavel, a retired judge of the Madras High Court, have been appointed by the High Court to look after the affairs of the city-based P T Lee Chengalvaraya Naicker Trust.The new trustees, appointed by a division bench comprising Justice R Banumathi and Justice B Rajendran recently, will hold the posts for three years till September 19, 2014.The other trustees are: Advocate M Gopinathan, V Ramadoss, V Ramanathan, G Mukundan, Dr C Arumugam, M Thangaraju, A Swamidurai and J Yamuna Devi.Originally, by an order dated April 1, 1999, a single judge had framed a scheme for the Trust. Challenging this order S Subramaniam of Vanniya Career Development Foundation and another filed appeals. With certain modifications of the clauses found in the scheme, a division bench on March 12, 2002 confirmed the same. It had also constituted the first three trust boards by appointing nine trustees for three years each. The period of the last trust board expired on September 19, 2011.Appointing Justice P Thangavel as the chairman of the Trust, the bench, after examining 98 applications, appointed Yamuna Devi as per Clause 4 (i) of the Scheme (one from among the members of the founder’s family), Dr Arumugam, Gopinathan and Ramanathan, as per Clause 4 (iii) (from among members of Vanniya community as far as possible from among lawyers, doctors, engineers and one retired official from the state and central government), Ramadoss, Swamidurai, Thangaraju and Mukundan as per Clause 4 (iv) (one retired member of the IAS, one teaching faculty and 2 from public personalities).
