New TN standing counsel

NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu government has appointed senior counsel S Guru Krishnakumar as the standing counsel to handle its cases in the Supreme Court. Orders to this effect were issued on Saturday.Krishnakumar studied law at the Madras Law College and enrolled himself as an advocate in October 1991. He also did a certificate course in commercial and corporate law in the UK. After working in the legal department of a leading corporate house, he practised in the Madras High Court between 1992 and 1997.He then shifted to the Supreme Court. It was Krishnakumar who argued the high profile DMK bandh case in the Supreme Court. The apex court had ordered the then TN government to withdraw the bandh.
