Thane residents are currently experiencing a 24 hour water cut on December 20. The Thane Municipal Corporation has scheduled the work of water supply in specific areas to enable essential maintenance and other necessary tasks.
This interruption, for a duration of 24 hours from 9 AM on Wednesday to 9 AM on Thursday, aims to target STEM Authority’s water supply pipelines.
As a result, various parts of the city will experience temporary closures in their water supply during this period. The Corporation has alerted the residents in advance to make alternative arrangements for their water needs.
The Corporation has plans to release water in a phased manner to maintain partial water supply across the city. From 9 AM to 9 PM on Wednesday, sections including Ghodbunder Road, Patlipada, Pawarnagar, Kothari Compound, Azadnagar, Dongripada, Waghbeel, Anandnagar, Kasarvadavali, Ovala and more will experience water cut off.
Later, in zones like Samtanagar, Ritupark, Siddheshwar, Eternity, Johnson, Jail, Saket, Uthalsar, Retibandar, Kalwa and Mumbra areas, the interruption will happen from 9 PM Wednesday to 9 AM Thursday. This strategic plan aims to ensure people get enough water for the day.
Meanwhile, even after the restoration of water supply on Thursday, a period of low water pressure is expected for a day or two. The Corporation further urges residents to store enough water in preparation for this temporary cut and cooperate during this period.
This is the second maintenance work within a month, following a previous 12 hour water supply interruption on December 1. The pause in water supply was imposed due to urgent repair work conducted at Katai Naka on the Barvi Gravity Channel, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
This affected major areas such as Diva, Mumbra, Kalwa, Rupadevi Pada, Kisan Nagar No. 2, Nehru Nagar, and Kolshet. Similar to recent advice, residents were alerted about the experiencing low water pressure for several days following the maintenance.
In November, Vinod Pawar, Deputy Engineer of TMC’s water department, highlighted that repairs in the air bladder pneumatic gate system might result in a decrease in the daily water supply sourced from the Bhatsa dam.
Meanwhile, on March 22, 2023, the Thane Municipal Corporation presented a budget of Rs 4,370 Crore for the financial year 2023-24, showing a surge of Rs 1,071 Crore compared to the previous year. This increase in budget allocation happened without any proposals for tax hikes, as reported by Mid Day.
