Now, Meat Goes Off the Menu at Aligarh Muslim University, Students Write to V-C
Coinciding with the new Uttar Pradesh government’s crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses, meat seems to have gone off the menu at Aligarh Muslim University. The university’s students’ union has written to vice-chancellor Lt. Gen. (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah in this regard. For the past one week, the hostels have been serving only vegetarian dishes. Earlier, meat was served twice a week.

Lucknow: Coinciding with the new Uttar Pradesh government’s crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses, meat seems to have gone off the menu at Aligarh Muslim University.

Omar Peerzada, the institution’s public relations officer, blamed high prices for the “temporary” shortage. “The meeting with students will happen today. Meat rates are higher, so this is a temporary arrangement,” he told CNN-News18.

They said the ban on slaughterhouses has caused a shortage in meat supply across the state, as thousands of meat sellers have been forced to shut their shops for an indefinite period in an air of uncertainty over the state government policy.
