New Delhi: Passengers on Mumbai’s Suburban Railway network will now be able to print out their railway tickets at Railway Stations by simply scanning their mobile phone screens at a kiosk, the Ministry of Railways said on Thursday.
Passengers, who have downloaded the Indian Railways’ UTS Mobile App, can avail this facility. They can simply walk up to a kiosk and print their tickets.
“Western Railway becomes first railway zone to introduce this facility for its Mumbai suburban commuters of Western Railway. This new facility will make printing of tickets much simpler and quicker. Under this facility just by simply placing the screen of mobile phone displaying the SMS of the ticket booked through UTS Mobile App in the designated slot provided in the OCR Kiosk machine and the machine will simply read the SMS and print ticket immediately,” a Railways statement said on Thursday.
As of Thursday, this facility began at 20 kiosks set up across five Mumbai local train stations. This includes 1 kiosk at Churchgate station, 6 kiosks at Dadar station, 3 kiosks at Bandra station, 5 kiosks at Andheri station and 5 kiosks at Borivali station.
The Railways claims this will help reduce queues at booking counters and ATVM machines. “Presently, passengers have to feed their mobile number and booking ID received on their mobiles, in the ATVM machines to get their tickets printed or get it through UTS counter.”
