Dhubri (Assam): The Border Security Force seized 'US Dollar 1980' and one fake US currency with a face value of $1 million from three persons from Dhubri district bordering Bangladesh, BSF officials said on Sunday.

The three, who included a former Head Constable of the force, were possessing the US Dollar 1980 illegally.

Besides the "$1 million" note, the three were carrying a certificate authenticating it and two blocks for manufacturing the note, the officials said.

According to the website of US department of the treasury, the present denominations of the currency in production are $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.

On receipt of information about the involvement of a gang in illegal possession/buying and selling of US dollars in Dhubri, a BSF team carried out a decoy operation in Panbari area late Saturday night and apprehended the three.

One of the apprehended person is a former Head Constable of BSF 68 battalion identified as Ashok Kumar Roy, resident of West Bengal, the officials said.

The other two are locals of Alamganj in Dhubri and identified as Amir Hamza and Ismail Hussain.
