PUDUCHERRY: Principal District and Sessions Judge C S Murugan fixed April 16 for the defence to begin its arguments in the Sankararaman murder case, after Special Public Prosecutor N Devadoss concluded his arguments on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the petition filed by Sankararaman’s wife Padma, who sought protection and “re-examination,” would also be considered on April 16. Judge C S Murugan said that he would pass the orders directing the Tamil Nadu police to provide protection for Sankararaman’s family on April 16.The judge had ordered the prosecution as well as defence counsels to file counters on the petition. Padma, who came to the court along with her son Anand Sharma on Wednesday, gave another petition alleging threat calls to her son-in-law as well.Later, Anand Sharma told reporters that the Tamil Nadu CB-CID had threatened his sister’s husband T A Kannan during the local body elections in Tami Nadu a few months ago. Alleging that some persons had threatened Kannan on March 11, 2009 over phone, he said it was never examined even after a complaint in this regard was filed with the Tamil Nadu DGP.Fifteen out of the 24 accused in the murder case were present in the court on Wednesday.  The judge had already exempted the  Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi, the prime-accused in the case from personal appearance in court on Wednesday.
