Jammu: The Pakistan Army violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement in place along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir firing unprovokedly at Indian positions near the LoC in Poonch district late Tuesday.

The incident took place at Krishna Ghati area of the LoC.

Defence spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS in Jammu: "Pakistan soldiers violated ceasefire in Krishna Ghati area of LoC in Poonch around 11 pm yesterday (Tuesday)."

"They opened unprovoked firing using small arms and automatic weapons.

"Our soldiers responded using similar calibre weapons. No damage or casualty has been reported on our side."

The Pakistan Army has violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement, signed between India and Pakistan in November 2003, five times this year.

Senior officers of the army and intelligence agencies say these violations are aimed at facilitating the infiltration of guerrillas into Indian-administered Kashmir.

One army jawan was killed and three others were wounded May 19 when the army foiled an infiltration bid in Akhnoor sector of the LoC in Jammu district.
