Pakistani Refugee Couple Who Moved to India 17 Months Ago Electrocuted in Jaisalmer
The couple was killed when an electric pole came crashing down on them while they were working in the field. The family has alleged negligence on the part of the electricity department, saying the pole was not buried properly in the soil

A couple who moved from Pakistan to India 17 months ago died tragically when they were electrocuted in Sagana village of Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan. The couple was working in the field when an electric pole fell on the husband, electrocuting him. Seeing her husband trapped in the electric wires, the wife rushed to save him, but was also electrocuted. Both died on the spot.

According to the reports, the deceased couple, Fotaram Od and Dadhli Devi, were Pakistani refugees who had moved to India 17 months ago. The couple have five children. Their eldest son, aged 13, is still in Pakistan due to visa issues, while the other four children lived with the couple in India. The bodies have been placed in the mortuary of Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer, where the post-mortem is scheduled for Saturday.

Raichand, the brother of the deceased man, said that Fotaram was ploughing the field with a tractor at the time of the accident. An electric pole standing in the field fell on the tractor, and the attached wires electrocuted Fotaram. As he cried for help, his wife, Dhadhli Devi, ran to save him. Tragically, she also came into contact with the live wires, and both were killed instantly.

Raichand further stated that the electric pole was buried only two feet deep in the soil, without a proper foundation or cementing. He noted that as soon as a small amount of soil was displaced during the ploughing, the pole collapsed.

The family of the deceased couple has alleged that this incident clearly shows the negligence of the electricity department. The family has demanded compensation from the authorities and called for legal action against the employees involved.
