The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging renaming of Nanjundeshwara Temple in Nanjangud of Mysore into Srikanteshwara Temple.
Hearing the petition filed by one H R Vishwanath, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen said change in name of temples or monuments was something that should not be entertained in a PIL.
Justice Sen directed the petitioner to withdraw the plea and make a representation to the authority concerned.
The petitioner had contended, “Lord Nanjundeshwara is the original and apt name for the temple, and the local people also know the temple by the same name,” he had said.
