Plastic shredder unit begins operations

SABARIMALA: The Forest Department’s plastic shredder unit, set up as part of eliminating plastic items from Sabarimala and adjoining forest areas, began operations at Neelimala on the Sabarimala trekking path on Sunday. Additional Chief Secretary and chairman of high-power committee on Sabarimala Infrastructure Development K Jayakumar inaugurated the unit.Deputy director of Periyar West division P R Suresh presided over the function.As part of effective implementation of plastic-free Sabarimala,  one of shredder units would be set up at Sannidhanam during the on-going pilgrimage season, Suresh said.The department would plan setting up shredder units in other sanctuaries, he said.
