PM declines comment on SC verdict
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declined to comment on the Supreme Court verdict that arms the government with the powers to abolish posts.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday declined to comment on the Supreme Court verdict that arms the government with the powers to abolish posts, without giving re-employment to the employees.

"I have not seen the judgement. We will have to study it," he said.

While the Left parties have reacted strongly to the SC judgement, the trade unions also expressed deep shock and concern over the Supreme Court judgement.

"It is a settled law that the power to abolish any civil post is inherent in every sovereign government and such abolition will not entail any right on the person holding the abolished post the right to reemployment or to hold the same post," a Bench of Justice S K Sema and Justice A R Lakshmanan had said in their order.
