Police tell residents along Indo-Pak border to be vigilant
The ASP instructed police officials to keep good liaison with the people living in their areas and sort out their problems without delay.

Jammu: In the backdrop of reports about cross-border infiltration attempts, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday appealed to the people living close to the Indo-Pak border to maintain "high degree of vigilance" on the activities of "anti-national elements".

As they live near the International Border (IB), the people were asked to keep an eye on the activities of anti-national and social elements and bring the matter to the notice of the police immediately, Additional Superintendent of Police, (Samba) Suram Singh said during a 'mass contact programme' to cultivate 'community policing' between police and people at the Ramgarh police station in Samba district.

Apart from the top police officers of the area, a large number of people from all walks of life, including prominent citizens, sarpanches, panches of the area and members of the civil society committees, participated in the meeting.

ASP Singh said one of the objectives of the programme was to acquaint police with the problems faced by the locals and to give a sense of involvement to the common man so that they could come forward to lodge their complaints and also share information with the police.

He said people were requested to co-operate with police and provide vital information to them from time to time so that any unwanted situation could be avoided.

They were also requested to help police in eradicating social evils from the society by providing correct and timely information as well as offering suggestions, he said.
