New Delhi: Venezuelan lawmakers have voted unanimously to give President Hugo Chavez new, wide-ranging powers, including powers to legislate by decree.
The law gives Chavez more power than he has ever had in eight years as president.
He plans to use the new powers over the next 18 months to effect changes in broad areas of public life, the economy and the oil industry in particular.
