Pune Porsche Accident: Father Of 17-Year-Old, Who Ran Over Two While Driving Drunk In Pune, Arrested
Pune Accident News: The Juvenile Justice Board's decision to grant the youngster bail on the same day while asking him to write an essay on road accidents has drawn criticism.

Pune Police has arrested father of the 17-year-old boy whose car allegedly knocked down and killed two people in Kalyani Nagar area. The father had been absconding after a case was registered against him. An officer said that he was held in Maharashtra’s Sambhajinagar, and will be brought to Pune soon.

Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said, “Police have taken the incident seriously, and have taken action under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). We moved two applications in this case. We also took action under sections 75 (punishment for cruelty to child) and 77 (penalty for giving intoxicating liquor or narcotic drug or psychotropic substance to a child) of Juvenile Justice Act against the father of the accused.”

“Any misconception of soft peddling by the police is not correct. Any one found supporting the accused shall be dealt with severe punishment. Have faith in us. Guilty shall be punished irrespective of his economic strata.” Pune police further said.

The accident took place on early Sunday morning. The Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to grant the youngster bail on the same day while asking him to write an essay on road accidents has drawn criticism.

The youngster, son of a real estate developer, was drunk at the time of the accident, police claimed on Monday. A case has been registered against him under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder ) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

A group of friends were returning on motorbikes around 3.15 am on Sunday after a party when a speeding luxury car hit one of the motorcycles at Kalyani Nagar junction. The two riders — Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa — died of their injuries.

Victim’s Family Wants Bail to be Scrapped, Maximum Punishment Given

Family of 25-year-old Ashwini Costa said that they are dismayed by the bail conditions and are ready to fight at every level to get her justice.

“We are in shock,” said her uncle, Sachin Bokde. The body of the deceased was brought to her home in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur.

“It is condemnable that he should get bail in 15 hours. He and his parents should be investigated. We will discuss the matter once Ashwini’s last rites are over,” Bokde added.

“We want his bail cancelled and he should remain in police custody. Because of him an innocent girl, who has seen nothing of life, died,” Costa’s uncle further said.

Ashwini’s father, Suresh Kumar Costa, works as an office assistant in Maharashtra’s electricity department. One of his sons, Samprit Costa, is a software engineer in Bengaluru.

A software engineer, Ashwini, was living in Pune for the last two years. Her last appointment was with Amazon. A year ago, she switched jobs and joined Johnson Controls Company.
