Put pressure on PM: Jagadish Shettar

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday urged Congress leaders from state to pressure Prime Minister Manmohan Singh keeping the interest of the state in mind.

Shettar who arrived at Mangalore Airport enroute to Udupi, said former prime minister H D Deve Gowda had left for New Delhi in order to apprise PM of the drought situation.

“Four Union ministers, including S M Krishna, M Mallikarjuna Kharge, M Veerappa Moily and K H Muniyappa should have accompanied the former prime minister,” he stressed.

Dismissing allegations by the opposition, he said Karnataka had effectively submitted its arguments in Supreme Court. “The Apex court’s orders had to be followed and there was no other alternative other than releasing water to Tamil Nadu,” said the CM.

Shettar said Karnataka had requested Prime Minister at the meeting of Cauvery River Authority held on September 19 to send an expert team and apprise itself of ground realities.

“The Cauvery Monitoring Committee will reach the state on October 9 and review the situation,” he informed.
