THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A training centre for resource persons of the Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), an ambitious project of the Central Government to develop sports facilities in rural areas, will commence on March 1 at Lakshmi Bai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE), Kariavattom. The centre would be the second of its kind in the country after Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior.Though the date of the official inauguration of the centre is yet to be announced, the training session for the first batch of sports trainers will start on March 1.  Fifty sports coaches/physical trainers nominated by State Governments and Union Territories will take part in the masters training programme. The prime objective behind the formation of such a centre is to provide a detailed training for the resource person who will, in turn, train PYKKA trainers at the panchayat-level. Dr G Kishore, principal of LNCPE, said that the master trainers, after attending the course, would then be assigned to train the local trainers.”PYKKA programme was started in 2008 with the single intention of developing sports infrastructure at grass-roots. The PYKKA aims at achieving these objectives by providing sporting venues and equipment at the panchayat-level. ‘Kreeda Srees’ at the panchayat-level would then be subjected to training. The syllabus for the 15-day masters training programme has already been designed,” he said. The syllabus will cover various aspects of training such as basic rules of different sports disciplines and organising tournaments. The seniormost faculties of LNCPE, Kariavattom, will lead the camp.Meanwhile, six coaches selected by the Sports Council will represent the State in the camp.
