Auraiya: A day after Congress President Sonia Gandhi charged the Uttar Pradesh government with meting out a step motherly treatment to her Lok Sabha constituency of Rae Bareli, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Monday said a package of Rs 1,100 crore had been given to the district and alleged that an attempt was being made to "malign" him.
"An attempt is being made to malign me by alleging that Raebareli is being discriminated against," Yadav said while addressing a public meeting here after inaugurating and dedicating several developmental projects here.
The Rs 1,100 crore package to Rae Bareli is more than what has been given to Agra, Etawah, Mainpuri and Budaon, the Chief Minister said.
Yadav also claimed that the Rae Bareli town was given 24-hour power supply while the rural areas in the district received 16-hour power daily.
He alleged that the power plants run by the NTPC were deliberately producing less power in order to create shortage of electricity in the state with a view to defame the state government.
The Chief Minister also alleged that the Centre had been harassing the Samajwadi Party leaders and those close to him.
Raides are being conducted and income tax notices are being issued to harass Amar Singh, Akhilesh Yadav and Amitabh Bachhan, he alleged.
