Hopefully, there will be no more service skipping of private buses at the Vyttila Mobility Hub (VMH). On Saturday, Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) punching system, the first of its kind at the VMH.
The system, which will help the authorities monitor the arrival and departure of buses, will avoid the unnecessary skipping of services at the hub, said Babu.
Mobility Hub Society managing director M Beena said, “The punching card will provide the details of a bus’ arrival and departure. Once the buses arrive, all details of its arrival can be obtained from the information counter.”
Mayor Tony Chammany said that the punching system will be made more scientific. “Initially, the Hub Society had planned an automatic RFID system. In the near future, the hub officials hope to install automatic RFIDs in the buses so that when the bus enters the hub, its presence will be immediately detected through a system,” he said.
Meanwhile, the City Police inaugurated the distribution of the unique identification card at the Hub.
The card is the brainchild of the Traffic Police. According to Commissioner M R Ajith Kumar, the card will be issued to the autos which have permits in the 74 divisions of the city. The A4-size card will display an auto-driver’s name and details.

However, various autorickshaw unions approached the City Police Commissioner, requesting the withdrawal of the information on their addresses from the cards.
“It is dangerous to have our addresses mentioned in the autorickshaws. The information can be misused,” they said.
Assistant Traffic Commissioner Baby Vinod said that the request is being considered.
