Agra: Activists of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) observed their boycott of Coca-Cola and Pepsi for their alleged high pesticide content by offering them to donkeys.
The protesters demanded a ban on the sale of Coke and Pepsi in the wake of Centre for Science and Environment’s findings that the average amount of pesticide found in the soft drinks was higher than the permissible limit.
RJD members brought half a dozen donkeys and, while raising slogans against the American companies, made the donkeys drink the cold drinks.
The animals did not initially relish the drinks. But after some coaxing and cajoling, they seemed to enjoy the free hospitality.
Volunteers of the Ajit Singh Youth Brigade have asked the authorities to ensure that shops in Agra stopped selling the cold drinks.
Sales of soft drinks have already dipped in the area.
An animal lover, however, called the offer of the soft drinks to the donkeys an "atrocious" act.
