New Delhi: A senior doctor in one of Delhi's premier hospitals is in serious trouble after a case of sodomy was registered against him on Thursday.
Dr A K Khare, head of the Orthopaedics Department, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was mobbed by the interns after an intern lodged a formal complaint of sodomy against him.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Anita Roy, said, "Khare took the student home and got him drunk. He then sodomised him. We are waiting for the complainant and will register a case as soon as he gives us a formal statement."
Medical students gheraoed the Medical Superintendent of RML, Dr N K Chaturvedi and demanded immediate action against Khare.
Following violent protests by medical students, the administration held a long meeting and suspended Khare.
Dr. NK Chaturvedi said, "The complaint was forwarded to the concerned authorities who have suspended Khare."
Students claimed that Khare has been sexually molesting interns for the past seven years but this is the first time that an intern has had the courage to report the incident.
Khare has been suspended and an investigation against him has started.
The matter is also going to be taken up by the Health Ministry.
