PATHANAMTHITTA: Health Minister Adoor Prakash has said that the State Government, for the first time, will offer free services of cardiologists from Andhra Pradesh for Sabarimala pilgrims during the forthcoming Mandalam-Makaravilaku season.Addressing a meeting on the preparations by the Health Department for the forthcoming pilgrimage season at Pampa Devaswom Guest House on Saturday, Adoor Prakash said that the services of cardiologists from Andhra Pradesh, including from the Hyderabad-based Narayana Hridayalam, would be made available to the pilgrims during the pilgrimage season.A high-level team from Narayana Hridayala headed by vice-president Dr Anilkumar and head of Cardiology Department Sreeman held discussions with him at Pampa, the Minister said. As part of the free service programme, the medical team visited Nilackal, Pampa, Neelimala and Appachimed Cardiology centres before reaching Sannidhanam, Adoor Prakash said.During their visit to Nilackal, the medical team expressed their willingness to set up a cardiology centre, he said. For the functioning of the centre, the Travancore Devaswom Board would provide adequate infrastructure facilities, he said. At Pampa, the cardiologists would provide their service at the Pampa Government Hospital where the Health Department would set up equipment and other basic facilities, the Minister said.For the accommodation facilities for the doctors at Pampa, the Department would set up facilities in the Devaswom Guest House building, the Minister said. At the cardiology centres at Neelimala Top and Appachimedu, the Health Department would provide adequate facilities, including equipment, he said.At Sannidhanam, a team of cardiologists would be available round-the-clock during the two-month season, he said. The team from Andhra Pradesh would be ready to offer free service during the monthly pooja days also, the Minister said. TDB president M Rajagopalan Nair was present at the meeting.
