NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it would not entertain the petition of V S Achuthanandan challenging the release of Balakrishna Pillai before expiry of his one-year jail term handed down by it in the Idamalayar case.A Bench comprising Justice P Sathasivam and Justice B S Chauhan said it was not inclined to entertain the petition filed by Achuthanandan. The court asked him if it was the duty of the apex court to implement its rulings. The Bench referred to its February 10 order wherein it had sentenced the former Kerala power minister and asked Achuthanandan to move the Kerala High Court for relief. “We have passed the order. Is it our duty to implement it?” Justice Sathasivam asked.Following this, counsel for Achuthanandan withdrew the petition. It was on February 10 that the Bench set aside Pillai’s acquittal by the High Court of Kerala in the corruption case involving a loss of over Rs 2 crore to the KSEB and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment, along with two others.
