New Delhi: Director Apoorva Lakhia’s action flick Shootout at Lokhandwala has run into trouble even before the movie has hit the theatres.
Mother of Maya Dolas, the gangster who was killed in the 1991 Lokhandwala shootout has filed a case in a Mumabi sessions court saying the film provides a distorted picture of Dolas and should be stopped from release.
Based on the real life day light encounter of five Dawood gang members in Mumbai's posh suburb of Lokhandwala, the film traces the eventful day and the controversial court case that followed.
Incidentally, the film's tagline also says that it is based on “true rumours.”
Actor Viveik Oberoi plays the role of Dolas, a notorious criminal with many cases of murder and extortion against him, in the film.
Shootout at Lokhandwala also starts Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and a host of other stars playing small but significant roles.
Meanwhile, underworld don Chhota Rajan has objected to the film on the grounds that it grossly distorts facts.
He told a national daily that the encounter was "totally fake" and the film sought to depict it as a true one.
However, A A Khan, the cop who had led the team, that gunned down Dolas in 1991, rubbished Rajan's claim.
Ironically, Sanjay Dutt, who is an accused in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case, plays A A Khan in the film.
Shootout at Lokhandwala hits theatres at the end of this month.
