BERHAMPUR: Ten families of Haradang village under Rangeilunda tehsil have appealed to the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) to rescue their sons detained ‘unlawfully’ at Sudan. They alleged that a labour contractor named Johnson promising good wages took them to Bhavani construction in Kerala last February and later they were flown to Sudan. The youths were engaged in a organisation named Costi there. According to the family members, the organisation forced them to work overtime without payment. Whenever they protested, the organisation allegedly used Sudanese police to beat them up.After the families were informed, they urged the ALC to rescue the youths and initiate action against the company who sent the youths to Sudan.DYSENTERY PANIC IN PATRAPUR: Over 25 persons of Samantarapur under Patrapur block are reportedly suffering from dysentery. The affected persons were admitted to Patrapur and Jarada hospitals. A team of health staff has rushed to the village. Besides treating the patients, the team is also disinfecting the area, particularly waterbodies.
