Beyond Sight showcased the talent of a group of blind photographers.

New Delhi: The visions of 22-year-old Mahesh show a passion for photography that keeps him busy when he is not learning music as a student in the Mumbai University.

The shutters of the camera usher a different world for him, a world vaguely remembered when years back he could see.

Says Mahesh, "I get a lot of satisfaction when I try to recreate the world, because once I could see this world, but now, it's just the memories of that world that keep me happy. But I am happiest when I can show the world my creations."

It's not just Mahesh, but eight others who are learning what may seem the impossible to some. And it's all thanks to the initiative of an IT professional, Partho Bhowmik.

"Blind people can do anything. It's just that the sighted people think that they can't give them the opportunity. If they get the opportunity, they can be at par with sighted people," says Bhowmik.

But surely it must have been a formidable task getting past cynicism and skepticism.

"To make people believe that it was possible was the first and foremost challenge that we faced. In two months time, however, it was established that we can do it. It's the first venture of its kind in India and we take pride in it," says Bhowmik.

At this exhibition, the eye meets darkness to create colors. And as Mahesh puts it, "It is not a challenge. We know we can do it.'

The journey of these men goes on, though they know that they will never be able to see the visions they have weaved.
