BANGALORE: Using the Right to Information Act is the major step to prevent corruption these days, said Justice RV Raveendran, retired judge of the Supreme Court. He was speaking at the 5th PGC Chengappa Memorial Lecture on“Corruption- Certain Dimensions” at the High Court here on Friday. He continued, “First, governments notify land more than what is required for a specific project. Then, the onus of getting the unwanted land denotified rests on hapless people. Thus, they are harassed to the extent of extortion.”Suggesting that stopping corruption starts with stopping bribes, he said: “Be it getting a government job, building a house or to get any connection we give bribe; hence we must stop giving bribes to prevent corruption.”"Each of us think that the law need not be applied to us strictly, and they should be exonerated,” he added.
