Ashish Sood beaten up by 15 men. Aus promises tough hate laws

New Delhi: Even as Australia promises to crack down on those responsible for a spate of attacks on Indians in that country, another incident has been reported.

Ashish Sood, studying at the Carrik Institute was reportedly beaten by a group of 15 youngsters on Saturday night at the city’s Chappel Street.

He along with three others were attacked by the group who started teasing and bullying them and then pounced on them.

Ashish was reportedly hit by a metal object and the police was called.

Ashish was admitted to Alferd Hospital with serious injuries and later discharged.

He is in a shock and his nose is still bleeding, a friend of his told South Asia Times by phone.

On Monday, Australian PM Kevin Rudd condemned racial attacks on Indian students and after thousands of Indians - mostly students from several universities across Australia - carried out a peace rally in Melbourne protesting the spate of attacks.

There's been at least six similar attacks on Indians in Australia in just over three weeks.
