“A principal is always faced with conflicts. However, a good principal, who is a teacher first and then an administrator, will be able to overcome these conflicts if he knows that his priority should be the interests of students who arrive at his school for learning,” Chief Secretary K Jayakumar has said.
He was speaking at the all-Kerala CBSE principals’ conference, organised by the Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya Complex, here on Monday.
“Since a principal has the overall responsibility of a school, he has to handle three entities- students, teachers and the management. During times of conflict, he has to remember that the needs of students are not negotiable like that of the teachers’ and the management. If he keeps this in mind, he will be capable of taking good decisions,” he said.
He also urged principals to take teachers under their wings.
Speaking on the impressive record of CBSE schools in the education sector in the state, he lauded the methodologies and infrastructure developed by the CBSE. “The state government schools have also contributed well in the field, but the resources of CBSE schools are much better. The state government should emulate the methodologies used by the CBSE,” he added.
