Gillian Gibbons has been sentenced to 15 days in prison in Sudan.

Khartoum: British teacher, Gillian Gibbons has been sentenced to 15 days in prison in Sudan, after being found guilty of insulting Islam.

Biritish diplomats are planning an appeal, after Gillion Gibbons was sentenced for 15 days, for what is being called a case of teddy bear blasphemy.

As a result to the outrage in UK, the Sudanese ambassador in London has been summoned to explain the decision.

Gibbons had allowed her class of primary school students to name a teddy bear Muhammad. She was charged with inciting hatred and showing contempt for religious beliefs.

The 54-year old was arrested on Sunday in Khartoum after some parents complained, accusing her of insulting the name of Prophet Muhammad.

After completing her sentence, Gibbons will be deported. The British Foreign Office said it was 'extremely disappointed' with the verdict. This incident is likely to heighten tensions between Sudan and Britain.
