Hours after attending the college farewell party, a student was found hanging in her hostel room in Telangana’s Suryapet on Saturday night.
According to an India Today report, the deceased was a second-year student in Telangana’s Social Welfare Gurukula Girls College and the incident was reported at nearly 9.30 pm.
The girl took the extreme step after she came back to her hostel room while the farewell party was underway at the college premises. She video-called her mother before the death and shared the details of the party, the publication reported.
The woman’s parents claim that they later received a call from the college authorities, informing them that their daughter was unwell and was rushed to a hospital.
The girl’s family is alleging foul play by the college authorities and says that the staff left the hospital even before the parents reached the hospital. Meanwhile, the police have filed an FIR in the matter and a detailed investigation has begun.
In another similar incident, a college student in Odisha’s Kendrapada allegedly died by suicide right before her 18th birthday.
The girl was a second-year MSc (mathematics) student and was found hanging in her hostel room at Central University of Odisha (CUO), TOI reported.
Earlier, two Dalit girls died by suspected suicide at a Telangana government hostel for SCs after being reprimanded by one of their teachers. The victims left behind a suicide note blaming false accusations and being unable to cope.
District education officer Narayan Reddy said there was a complaint by students against the girls.
