Following
Congress high command’s efforts to set the party’s house in order in the state,
ministers hailing from Telangana are planning to visit Delhi
to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi and urge her to take a speedy decision on
the issue of statehood for the region.Panchayat
raj minister K Jana Reddy, while talking to mediapersons in his chamber at the
Secretariat here on Friday, divulged the ministers’ plans to step up pressure on
the high command.“We
will seek the appointment of our party president Sonia Gandhi in the coming two
or three days. We will request her to take a speedy decision on the issue of granting
statehood to the Telangana region,” he said and exuded confidence that the high
command would keep its promise on Telangana. He
made it clear that all the ministers from the region would not relent until a
separate Telangana state was formed.However,
it is learnt that opinion is divided among the Telangana ministers over the Delhi
visit proposal.Some
ministers say that it is not the right time for them to exert pressure on the
high command as the AICC top brass is racking its brains on revamping the PCC
and the state cabinet.Some
others like Jana Reddy feel that as the high command has turned its focus on
the state affairs now, it is an appropriate time to mount pressure on it and
should strike while the iron is hot.
Meanwhile, in the wake of reports that a non-Congress UPA
minister raised the Telangana issue at a UPA coordination committee meeting on
Wednesday and warned the Congress leadership that any further delay on taking a
decision on Telangana would only bring doom to the party in the region, Congress
leaders from Telangana believe that the high command will take a final call
soon on the issue of state’s bifurcation.
