HYDERABAD: The ongoing Telangana Sakala Janula Samme has cast a shadow over the Dasara festival and has skewed travel plans of several people in the twin cities. While some had to cancel their planned trips to their native places altogether, others had to shell out more than the usual fare.Said P Parameshwarudu, a high school teacher and a resident of Mehdipatnam, “I have cancelled my Dasara trip to Nellore due to the RTC strike. I wanted to go with my family. If I were alone, I could have gone somehow but with children, it is impossible.”M Ramesh from Dilsukhnagar did not put off his trip to his native Vijayawada. “We still have train services and private travels,” he pointed out but admitted he had to cough up Rs 150 extra to book a bus ticket to Vijayawada. I Sudarshan, a resident of Kukatpally, echoed the same views. Private operators, meanwhile, seem to be blending caution with aggression. On the one hand, they are fleecing passengers and on the other, they are wary of running buses.Asked why they were collecting more, B Srinivas, an employee of the SVR Travels, posed a counter-question: “We have been charging Rs 150 extra because we are afraid of Telangana agitators. If our buses are damaged, who will be responsible?” He said the extra charge was a kind of insurance.
