A Telangana constable’s timely response saved a family from a blazing fire that engulfed their residence in the capital city. The incident took place in a flat on the sixth floor of an apartment under Punjagutta Police Station limits in Hyderabad.
The family waited for help as the flames mixed with smoke deluged them. Neighbours immediately called the state fire department, but the fighters were delayed to save the victims.
As the situation turned worse, neighbours informed about the fire accident to Shravan Kumar, a constable under state’s traffic wing in Punjagutta.
The constable without any safety guards rushed to the sixth floor of the apartment. He noticed that the main door of the flat was locked from inside. Using a metal object, Kumar broke the door and safely evacuated the family and brought some of them on his shoulders.
Later the fire was controlled by the department. Apart from the residents of the apartment, the locals from Punjagutta area lauded the daring and humanitarian act of Shravan Kumar in saving the lives.
The saved family members thanked the traffic constable with folded hands.
Back in November, a massive fire broke out a fishing harbour in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam where nearly 40 boats were gutted and two fishermen injured.
Multiple fire tenders reached the spot and had contained the fire, officials said. As per preliminary information, a gas leakage triggered might have triggered the blaze.
The fire first started with one boat and eventually spread to the rest of the boats at the harbour. Suspecting foul play, local fishermen reportedly alleged that some unknown individuals might have set the boats on fire intentionally.
Ravi Shankar, ADGP Law and Order said that when one of the ships caught fire late at night, some boys were there, probably partying but luckily other boatsmen reached the spot and “deanchored the ship and let it off into the sea”.
