CHENNAI: The Telugu Journalists’ Association, Tejous, celebrated its 10th anniversary in the city on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Governor K Rosaiah said that news and opinions must be separate and one should not reflect the other. He said that it had become a necessity to provide news faster due to competition and that journalists should ensure the accuracy of facts before presenting news. “Only certain newspapers are known for authentic news now. If people’s faith in journalism has to go up, then more papers should give authentic news,” he said. Pointing out that journalists have more responsibility, senior journalist Varadachari said the need to adhere to ethical practices was highest for them. He also said that associations like Tejous were needed to promote professionalism among journalists.Tirumalagiri Surender, Chairman, Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh, who was also present at the function, said that it was in Madras that Telugu journalism was born and recalled how Andhra Patrika newspaper was established in the city. A souvenir to mark the 10th year of the association was also released at the event.
