THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Tension prevailed at Medical College Hospital (MCH) after agitated family members and friends of a remanded prisoner, who died at the hospital the other day, staged a protest at the hospital raising suspicion over the death. It was the remand prisoner, Sreedharan, 56, of Maranalloor, near Malayinkeezh, who died at the hospital the other day. He had been arrested by the Neyyattinkara Excise officials in connection with an abkari case on December 17.  He was later sent to the Special Sub Jail at Poojappura. On December 18, Sreedharan’s health deteriorated, following which was admitted to the MCH. On December 19, Sreedharan breathed his last. His family and friends even gheraoed the executive magistrate, who came to prepare the inquest, following which police registered a case of unnatural death.  The prison authorities said that ‘’Sreedharan was an alcoholic. His body became weak as he was deprived of alcohol during mprisonment.’’
