Thailand's anti-government protestors on Friday blockaded government buildings in capital Bangkok where ballot papers for general elections two days away are being stored.
Supporters of the opposition People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), led by Luang Pu Buddha Issara, surrounded the Laksi district office building in the capital, the Bangkok Post reported.
Luang said the blockade was a call for the director of the district, who is also chairman of the election committee in one of the constituencies, to refrain from delivering the ballot boxes and papers to polling stations in the area.
The PDRC protestors want the country's prime minister to step down. Since November, they have been taking to the streets and occupying government offices, calling for reforms before the elections.
But Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called the Feb 2 polls in response to the protests. The opposition is boycotting the polls.
Luang said the ballot boxes and voting papers are equivalent to poisonous fruits and if they are sent out it would have negative consequences.
He believed that a large number of people would lose their lives if the government goes ahead with the Feb 2 elections.
The anti-government protestors surrounded many post offices in their bid to prevent the planned election from taking place.
