New Delhi: In more trouble for Shashi Tharoor, the Delhi Police has confirmed that they will question the Congress MP in connection with the mysterious death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.
Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said that Tharoor has been asked to join the investigation and will be questioned in a day or two. "Tharoor is out of town and will be back by Tuesday evening. We will either be questioning him tomorrow itself or day after. We will be talking to everyone connected with the case," he said.
Meanwhile, Tharoor has accused the media of being irresponsible and defaming him. "Some people clearly decide that they can be prosecutor, witness, jury, judge and executioner and call themselves television achors. As far as I am concerned they are welcome to do all of these as they like," he had said.
The Delhi Police sources have claimed that her death is an open-and-shut case. They also revealed that Sunanda was injected by someone who knew her well. There have been several contradictions between people examined and Tharoor's statements. Officials said that Sunanda was unhappy with her personal life.
The Delhi Police had on January 6 filed a murder case in connection with Sunanda Pushkar's death under section 302 of IPC on the basis of an AIIMS medical report that stated that her death was unnatural and was due to poisoning.
Bassi said Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, whose friendship with Tharoor had reportedly led to a row between him and Sunanda, may also be questioned if needed.
Sunanda was found dead in her Delhi hotel room under suspicious circumstances on January 17, 2014. The police have filed a murder case against unknown people and claimed that her death was due to poisoning.
