CHENNAI: A postgraduate student from a leading college, who extended his stay in Chennai to prepare for the forthcoming Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) exams, was run over by a train on Tuesday.Singaravelu (26) from Poiappatti village in Harur taluk, Dharmapuri, was doing his final year  MA English Literature at Loyola College, said Egmore Government Railway Police SI Loganathan. “The youth appears to be the first graduate from his family. After completing his college examinations, Singaravelu chose to stay back in the city for the TRB exams,” he said. The deceased was staying with friends in Choolaimedu. Police said, Singaravelu and his friends would chat at the deserted platform in the Nungambakkam railway station in the evenings. As usual on Tuesday, evening, the police said, after meeting with friends, he was crossing the railway track to get to the main road when he was run over by a train at 8.45 pm. On hearing the accident, Railway Protection Force (RPF) police from Mambalam rushed to  the spot and took his body to the Government General Hospital. After an autopsy, his body was handed over his relatives on Wednesday. They will be taking the body back to his village, the sub-inspector stated. Singaravelu is survived by his mother and two brothers.
