Ramesh loves Jackie Chan. Every time his hero kicks his enemies, he claps and whistles. But this fun time doesn’t last long, for unlike other boys his age, Ramesh has to work for a living. At 15, he shoulders the responsibility of keeping his sister in school and also providing for his family. After dropping out of school in Class two, Ramesh had been doing odd jobs. But for the last four years, he has been working in a steel factory which makes tiffin boxes. He starts his day at 9 am everyday, and during the course of the day, manages to powder and polish an average of 3,000 boxes, and returns home by 7.30 pm. He earns `100 per day.He ruefully admits, if only his father had been a responsible man, and provided for the family, he would have continued to study. Ramesh says, “My father is a useless man, he doesn’t go to work and keeps drinking whenever he makes some money. I started working to help my mother, who struggles all day to feed us.” He now has a dream. "I want to earn enough money, so that my little sister can continue her education and do well in life and makes us all proud," he says. On Sundays, when he doesn’t work, he visits the Marina beach with his friends, and at times, sits at home and watches Jackie Chan's and Vijay's movies. Going to his home town, Puducherry, to meet his cousins is something he waits for.
