Thrissur: Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has recently recommended 14 sites, including temples and palaces, from Kerala to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESO) to include in its list of World Heritage Sites.

ASI's superintending Archaeologist in Thrissur, Dr M Nambirajan told PTI on Monday that the ancient Sree Vadakkunnathan (Shiva) temple, where the famous "pooram" festivals are held, was one such shrine recommended.

Two-hundred and fourteenth year (214) of Thirssur pooram falls this year on May one. Other temples are at Triprayar, Peruvanam, Chemmanamthitta, Pallimanna and Thiruvanchikulam and Umbrella Stone at Chiramananged and Arikanniyur, all from the district, he said.

Besides forts of saint Angelo, Beckel, Palakkad and Thalassery, Padmanabhapuram palace and the Edakkal caves had also been recommended, he said.

ASI is the modal agency for recommending suitable states to include in the list of the world heritage sites of the UNESCO, Nambirajan said.
