HYDERABAD: No tiger death took place in Andhra Pradesh in the last 14 months, while as many as 32 tigers died across the country in the last over four months. Moreover, the number of tigers is increasing in the state.However, six panthers died either naturally or in accidents since 2010.According to the interim report of the ongoing State Tiger Census-2012 conducted by AP Forest Department (APFD) with the help of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), the number of tigers in the state at present is 100. The census began on May 1.There is no tiger mortality in 2011 in the state. One tiger died in Kagaznagar range forest area in 2010 and another at GBM sanctuary in Nalgonda in 2009. Both were killed by poachers. Deputy conservator of forests A Shankaran said, “It is an interim report of the census. The final report will be presented on May 25. According to the 2010- 11 tiger census, the number of tigers in Andhra Pradesh is between 65 and 70, he added.
